Motivation Comes From Celebration

How often have you felt like this but failed to show it. You don't feel comfortable - it might be embarrassing or people might think you are dick - get over it!

Success is not celebrated enough. I once did a gig on performance with an Auckland based medium size accounting firm who were successfully punching well above their weight.

The team of young accountants were eager and passionate. They had great innovative ideas on how to boost business and performance and they were excited to share with me their success.

UNFORTUNATELY their manager was an old fashioned stick in the mud.  He was 65 and not interested in the successes of his team - It was "enough of this gibber jabber we need to focus on moving forward and doing better than we have"

In that one moment you could feel all of the energy being sucked out of the room. What I had to offer them would not be motivating at all - they just looked sad. He was a massive presence in the room with the outcome that the staff just literally shut down.

I raised the issue with him - but he wouldn't have a bar of it - it was all about targets targets targets. Game over.

Contrast this with the team of New Zealand Home Loans franchisees who I invited to stand up in front of their peers and share their successes with each other.  It went off - what a buzz. Everybody was engaged and excited for for their team mates.

Their performance motivator was within the group - that small environment of motivated, inspired people fuelling  on each others energy and the vibe that was created.  I had very little to do as the facilitator, because the positivity created the momentum.

Motivation and inspiration comes from sharing success and creating proactive solutions for those things that were not successful.  Every audience whether it be a small business team 10, or 500 people in a conference or just two staff members in your business can generate performance motivators every day which leads to regular success.

At you next staff meeting use this Performance Motivator to start the week...

"Ok team lets have a great week - answer the following questions for me...
1. What are your goals for this week?
2. How do you propose to achieve them?
3. What assistance do you need from the team?
4. And how can I help you?
